Throughout the spring semester, students have been hard at work producing a range of photographic works including portraits of flora in the Westside Community Garden, snaps of students and glitter, and even a gallery entitled “Taste of Chinatown.”
“There is nothing more satisfying than looking through the camera’s viewfinder and discovering a new world,” said Adam Gaynor, photography teacher at Gaynor. “To document and express yourself in a language that feels right to you, that you have created, is the gift of photography. That is one of the precious goals I hope my students achieve: tapping into a visual literacy. Whether it’s photographing rain drops clinging onto the petals of a tulip, or a stranger’s curious glance in Chinatown, students feel a sense of achievement, and that can go a long way.”
