The Gaynor Gators posed with their championship trophy for the first time in school history! Coach James Melillo brought the team together for a pep talk during a time out.The Gaynor Gators Green Squad emerged as American International Private School League (AIPSL) champions this week with an overtime victory over Speyer School.

According to Head Coach James Melillo, “Both teams fought hard and it was a back-and-forth game the entire way. The Gators held a three point lead with 11 seconds left before a player from Speyer hit an amazing 3-point shot to tie it up at 41 to send the game to overtime.”

During the overtime period, the Gators maintained their composure and relied on the team defense that carried them to the championship game. With some key free throws and smart plays at the end, the Gators were able to engineer a 51-41 victory without allowing a single basket during overtime.

Melillo said, “We could not be more proud of the way the boys stayed together and supported one another throughout a difficult and hard-fought game.” David Mager led all scorers with 34 points.
