This week’s TWIGS covers the past week of Gaynor athletics.
On October 11, Gaynor’s Blue cluster squad traveled to Baker Field of Columbia University to match up with Rodeph Shalom School. It was a tough game against the RSS team on the large college-sized field, but Gaynor gritted through and prevailed, 2-0. Josiah D. and Gray F. scored our goals while solid defense from Zac G. and Gabby H. stymied RSS. Simon S. had several big saves as goalkeeper to maintain the shut out. Coach Prasarn commented on the game, adding that, “Winning is not the only goal, but doing it the Gaynor way with sportsmanship and respect for the opponent and the game is what we strive for.”
On October 13, Gaynor’s Green cluster faced Heschel at Columbia Park with a little help from the older squad to fill out the 11v11 game. Gaynor had a tough time executing the game plan and maintaining spacing while Heschel made some really good plays to win 5-0. Coach Prasarn remarked, “Win or lose, it’s always about improving. Learning the roles and responsibilities of each position while relying on each other to execute is a big step in this squad’s development. I am confident they will bounce back and gain even more experience in two mixed cluster games next week.”
The cross-country team’s latest meet was on October 6th. For the boys, the top finishers were Teddy B. with a time of 13:05.11, followed by Jack B. with a time of 13:31.12, and Lucien T. with a time of 14:42.97. The top finishers for the girls squad were Hannah J. with a time of 13:25.63, followed by Nour K. and Maeve L., who finished 13:28.82 and 14:24.87, respectively. The next cross-country meet is October 13th, and the next meet after that will be October 27th.
The girls volleyball team had three games this week; on October 11th both the Blue and Green Cluster teams played against The School of Columbia. On October 12th the Blue Cluster played against Speyer, and then played against Rodelph Sholom School on October 13th. Check out some action shots below!
