In January, the Blue Cluster introduced an executive functioning after school class to provide more explicit support for students who have executive function challenges. Executive functions are a set of processes that have to do with managing oneself and one’s resources in order to achieve a goal, and this class helps by providing more explicit instruction, ongoing support, and practice for students who need it.

Fire-knife dancing, basket weaving, and the importance of coconuts were all things Blue Cluster students learned this month in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

On May 23, the Gaynor community joined together in person at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, for Gaynor Gala 2022. Pier Sixty was an apt location for the Gala this year, as the school celebrated its 60th anniversary. 

On May 23, 2022, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos, and their son Joaquin Consuelos ’17, hosted Gaynor Gala 2022. The next morning, Kelly Ripa joined her co-host Ryan Seacrest on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan to talk about the event and about how much Gaynor has meant to their family.

Purple Cluster students in Ms. Fell’s class continued their exploration of New York City’s transportation, moving on to the form most commuters use: the subway.

Gaynor students “went viral” during this year’s Reading Challenge. The theme of this year’s challenge was “#gaynorgram,” a take on the photo sharing platform, Instagram. Students were tasked to fill out a “gaynorgram” slip for every book they read or listened to during the weeks of the Reading Challenge, and then “post” their slip(s) on the bigger-than-life iPhone located in the North Building lobby.

Gaynor’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion curriculum is divided into four different categories, also known as bands, for classes to work on throughout the year. The bands are: identity, respect, social justice, and combating inequality. Last week, students in the Green Cluster learned about the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr from their classmate, Nour.
