Target Audience

Independent and public school elementary and middle school educators who are hoping to gain strategies to support students with or without learning differences.

Description

Executive function—skills like planning, organization, and self-regulation—are essential for academic success but can be challenging for students with ADHD and executive function (EF) difficulties. This workshop is designed to help educators seamlessly integrate executive function skill-building into everyday classroom routines and instruction.This workshop will give examples of how students can receive scaffolded support to navigate their academic responsibilities and develop their executive skills through seamless integration across the academic environment.

Organization of Information and Belongings
Self-Regulation
Working Memory

By attending this session, you’ll gain strategies to create a classroom environment that not only supports students with ADHD and EF challenges but helps all learners develop critical skills for academic and personal success.

About the Presenter: Jill Thompson

Jill Thompson is Gaynor’s Assistant Head of School and has held this role for the last 10 years. She has facilitated the integration of executive functions skill development across the academic environment. Most recently she supported the expansion of an executive functions after school program for students transitioning to high school. Jill also supervises and teaches in the school’s Senior Educator Program. She has worked in special education for over 23 years. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College in 2008, Jill moved into special education administration, first as an Assistant Principal in Paoli, PA, and then as Head of School in Silver Spring, MD. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in special education at George Washington University.
