This Week in Gaynor Sports

It has been a busy week in Gaynor sports. In cross country, Gaynor’s Chandra Krywood, Halle Maanavi and Liv Olsen placed 14, 22, and 31, respectively, out of 100 girls.  In the boys’ race, Calvin Hills ran the 1.5 mile loop the fastest of the Gaynor boys in 11:32. Chace Roebling ran it in 11:50 and Sam Karr came in at 13:28.

Coach Caitlin Kearney said, “We compete against many schools and there are 150-200 runners in each of the boys and girls’ races; however, each week our runners keep improving and are getting faster and faster. Even though we aren’t the top finishers, each runner is putting in fantastic effort and they show incredible grit, drive, and determination. Running 1.5 miles was not easy for some students at the beginning of the season.”

The volleyball team won one in a series of three games against Avenues: The World School with a score of 15-5. Not every team had a winning week, with the green squad soccer team defeated by Rodeph Shalom, 3-1. About the game, coach James Melillo said, “We’re proud of the effort our team brings to every practice and game. It’s not about the scores but the teamwork and determination each of our players and the fun they have on the field. That’s what really counts.”
