It was an exciting week for the Gaynor Gators, with the game and meet schedule in full swing.

On Monday, the Gaynor soccer team made a triumphant return to interscholastic competition in their first game back after the pandemic forced a break in their interscholastic play. On Monday, Gaynor travelled to Randall’s Island to earn a 5-1 victory over neighboring Geneva School. Coach Andrew Prasarn said, “Our team was in control from the start, constantly gaining possession and keeping the ball in opposing territory for most of the game. William B. and Rylan O. both scored two goals each, and Scarlett N. added her first goal off a perfectly-placed crossing pass from Juan Diego D. Goalies Gunnar S. and Blake S. made several key stops with Blake adding a successfully-defended penalty kick.”

Coach Prasarn continued, “Overall a great way to start the season, though the highlight for the students might have been stepping on the bus for the first time and enjoying the camaraderie of traveling together as a team and proudly representing Stephen Gaynor School outside the building!”

The cross country team had their second meet of the season this week. Lake C., Zach C., Liv O., Cassie B. and Molly Q. all improved their times from the previous meet. Coach Hannah Miller expressed how impressed she was with the team’s performance, saying, “All of our runners paid extra attention to their pacing at this week’s meet, and demonstrated improved endurance throughout the race.”

The volleyball team showed teamwork and spirit in their game on Tuesday, which ended in a loss to in two sets to Cathedral. According to Coach Mashawn Butler, “This was the team’s first game of the season and they played really well.”
