Students Take a Journey in Dance and Culture in Honor of Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, on Wednesday, October 11 Stephen Gaynor School’s neighbors from Ballet Hispánico held an assembly for the entire school. Dancers performed three pieces that took students on a journey from Mexico to Brazil and countries in between, highlighting different music, styles, and costumes.

How Do You Cook Rice?: PA DEI Breakfast

On October 6, the first DEI Coffee was held in the North Cafeteria, with the theme, “All Are Welcome!” Sponsored by the Parents’ Association and hosted by Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Stella Mulatu, Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement Tia Murkison, and PA DEI Chair Adey Fisseha, the coffee focused on having conversations centered around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Gaynor. 

A Doggone Great Reading Partner is Back at Gaynor!

Students at Gaynor are having a tail-wagging good time reading to a very willing listener in Arrow, a therapy dog. Arrow and her owner Susan participate in the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program, and have been visiting Gaynor since 2017.

National Hispanic Heritage Month Inspires “Hair-raising” Art

September 15 marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, and Green Cluster students in 703 kicked off the month with some “hair-raising” art! Students in Ms. Carril’s class created collages inspired by artist Lorna Simpson. Simpson is most known for her photography, collage, and multimedia work, which explores the themes of race, gender, and equality.

Preparing for “Life After Gaynor”

Individualization at Gaynor is not only for classroom instruction, but also for the placement process for those transitioning to their next school. Determining the right time, right school and right grade to enter when a student leaves Gaynor is customized to each individual student and family’s needs and preferences.
