This Week in Gaynor Sports – October 25 – 29

Yesterday, Head of School Dr. Scott Gaynor shouted out our athletics teams in a presentation to prospective families, commenting on the excitement and positive energy the volleyball, soccer, and cross country teams exhibited this week.

Coach Andrew Prasarn submitted this report from the field: “Gaynor soccer broke out of their mid-season slump with a hard-earned victory against an evenly matched Cathedral team. In the back and forth game, goals by William B. and Gray F. were each answered by Cathedral goals leaving the game tied. With just 5 minutes remaining, Freddi C. booted a shot in tight traffic that found the back of the net and broke the tie. Gaynor held on for the 3-2 victory. It was truly a team effort with all 19 players logging significant playing time and making valuable contributions. Before the game we emphasized staying focused, pushing ourselves, and playing as a unified team and the players took that message to heart delivering their best performance of the year.”

On Tuesday, girls volleyball played hard, but came away with a loss against Rodeph Sholom in three sets. Then, on Thursday, the team had a statement win to break out of a rut. Coach Wade Kornegay reported that the team, “Won all three sets, and showed outstanding teamwork!”

The cross country team had a meet on Thursday, and performed well.
