This past Monday, November 13, was World Kindness Day. World Kindness Day was created by The World Kindness Movement in November of 1998, during the first World Kindness Movement conference in Tokyo, Japan. Andrea Hochman’s students had a special week in art centered around the themes of kindness and giving in honor of the holiday. First, Yellow and Silver Cluster students anonymously filled out brief surveys about themselves, which were then redistributed to other students. Each student had to create a card or piece of artwork for their mystery person.
The students in the Red, Pink, and Orange clusters also did the same activity without surveys, instead drawing the names of their classmates out of a hat. At the end, everyone exchanged the gifts they had made. It just goes to show that such a simple activity can brighten someone’s day! Everyone liked it so much, many requested to do the activity again.
