In Their Own Words: How Students Experience Learning at Gaynor

At Stephen Gaynor School, joyful learning is not an accident, it is an enivornment intentionally created by teachers who know their students deeply and celebrate how each one learns.

In classrooms where voices are heard and differences are understood, students experience success, confidence, and genuine joy in the process of learning. When we asked students to describe Gaynor in three words, their responses reflected that spirit again and again, highlighting empathy, encouragement, and belonging.

In this community, students do more than master academic skills. They practice compassion, learn to advocate for themselves and others, and discover that leadership begins with understanding. These three words offer a window into the kind of school Gaynor strives to be every day and into the compassionate leaders our students are becoming.

  • Dedicated

  • Individualized

  • Welcoming

Three words I would use to describe Stephen Gaynor School are dedicated, individualized, and welcoming. The teachers are deeply committed to their students, focusing on each child's unique learning style to ensure everyone gets what they need. From the warm greetings at the door to the supportive classroom environment, Gaynor makes every student feel safe and valued. Gaynor has had a profound impact on my life, especially in reading. I came in struggling and afraid to read aloud, but through years of hard work and the incredible support of my teachers and specialists, I gained the skills and confidence I needed. Today, I'm proud to say I'm a strong reader who truly enjoys it—something I once thought wasn't possible.

  • Supportive

  • Patient

  • Differentiated

Three words I would use to describe Stephen Gaynor School are supportive, patient, and differentiated. I would describe Gaynor as supportive because teachers help give students the time they need to succeed. From my experience, Gaynor has helped me succeed by teaching at a pace where I don't feel rushed or left behind if I don't understand something. Lastly, it is differentiated because it's an environment where teachers make each student's education accessible by providing them with everything they need to learn.

  • Accomodating

  • Memorable

  • Life-changing

The three words I would use to describe Stephen Gaynor School would be accomodating, memorable, and life-changing. Gaynor accomodates each student by providing specific help on different types of assignments and tests, such as a graphic organizer. Gaynor is memorable; one example of this is that students leave with positive memories of friends, teachers, and life-changing experiences. I will leave Gaynor remembering how this school helped me learn to read and how to improve my writing skills. Gaynor has prepared me for my next school by giving me strategies to help with reading and writing.
