At Stephen Gaynor School, every day offers an opportunity to celebrate and support the 1 in 5 people in our country who have learning or attentional challenges. Our goal is to build understanding, strengthen confidence, and empower students who learn differently to become leaders in their own learning and beyond. - February Breakfast My Way Honors Black History Month
On February 11, members of the Gaynor community gathered for Breakfast My Way, honoring Black History Month. The breakfast was hosted by LaTanya Phelps, mother of Ridwan in the Yellow Cluster, with soul food provided by Melba’s Restaurant. - Silver Cluster Explores Storytelling Through Games with New Victory Theatre Teaching Artists
On January 15, Silver Cluster students explored what it means to see a “linguistic play” with Teaching Artists from New Victory Theatre, in anticipation of their visit to the theatre later in the month to see BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play. The workshop prepared students for the show by introducing them to the creator of the piece, her background, and offering a peek of the elements they would later experience during the performance. - Gaynor Students Recognized by Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Three of Gaynor’s Blue Cluster students have been recognized by the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards! Leila F. received a Silver Key in Short Story; Sam M. received an Honorable Mention in Speculative Fiction; and Shalev S. received a Gold Key in Memoir, a Silver Key in Poetry, and an Honorable Mention in Poetry and Flash Fiction. - Celebrating Nepali Culture at December’s Breakfast My Way
On December 17, parents, students, and other members of the Gaynor community gathered in the North Cafeteria to celebrate Nepali culture at Breakfast My Way. The breakfast was hosted by Kieran Hartsough and Barun Mathema, parents of Avi in the Silver Cluster.
