Parents’ Association Diversity Committee
The Diversity Committee is a sub-committee of the Parents’ Association and is dedicated to promoting and advocating for increased diversity and sensitivity to differences among the Gaynor school community. Stephen Gaynor School itself is a special community of children who learn differently, but this committee addresses many types of diversity within our community.
The committee hopes to serve and celebrate the many types of diversity within the Stephen Gaynor School community including: ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, ability, religion, sexual orientation, family configuration, lifestyle, language, gender, and adoption status. Family and student participation in these activities is voluntary and solely through self-identification. The PA’s Diversity Committee works with the school’s Community Values Committee (CVC), which is dedicated to creating a rich environment for learning for all students. Dr. Andrew Solomon, author of best-seller Far From the Tree, and Jacqueline Woodson, author of Brown Girl Dreaming, are some of the guest speakers that the PA’s Diversity Committee and Stephen Gaynor School have hosted.
Stephen Gaynor School is a member of the Independent School Diversity Network. For more information about the ISDN, please click here.
