Meet the Faculty, Part 3

In this installment of our “meet the new faculty and specialists” series, we will introduce you to the new head teachers in the Middle School. One is a published author and the other is a Wolverine!

 

Alyssa Cowit, Co-Teacher, Green Cluster

Tell us about yourself:
I joined Gaynor as a Co-Teacher in the Green Cluster this year! Last year I worked at Rodeph Shalom School as a Special Education Teacher, pushing in and pulling out of classrooms in their lower school. I taught third grade before that. I have a BA in Speech and Language Pathology from Ithaca College and an MA in Special Education and General Education from NYU. I grew up in New Jersey, and visit family often, but I was born to be a New Yorker for sure!

Favorites?
Food – You will often find me eating Sushi and Pizza, not at the same time!
Restaurant – Blue Ribbon Sushi, Otto, anything by Danny Meyer.
Thing to do in NYC – going to Broadway shows (since I was 10) , trying new restaurants, taking a class (workout, craft, cooking)
Book – anything by Emily Giffin
Hobby – Hiking, jogging, crafting

What was your favorite subject in school?
Reading, I love the creativity behind it!

What is your secret talent?

Sarah Kaufman, Head Teacher, Blue Cluster

Tell us about yourself:
I’m excited to return to the Blue Cluster at Gaynor! After working in the Middle School here for 3 years (2011 – 2014), my husband and I moved to Denver for some adventure and fresh mountain air. In Denver, I worked as the Learning Specialist and Special Education Coordinator at The Logan School for Creative Learning. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology at The University of Michigan and my Masters Degree in General and Special Education from NYU.

Food – Rice

Thing to do in NYC – Walking along the Hudson in Riverside Park

Hobby – Cooking

What was your favorite subject in school?
Math and Physics
