Blue Cluster “Museum Walk” Explores Changing NYC Climate

Students in the Blue Cluster Project-Based Learning (PBL) classes demonstrated their knowledge on Friday with a culminating fair. Billed as a “Museum Walk,” each student or small group of students focused on an individual factor that affects the changing climate of New York City. With projects ranging from rising sea levels to endangered wildlife, to air, soil and water quality, no topic was left unexplored.

Technology teacher Brian Russ explained that the project did not just focus on classroom learning, but included a field trip to determine how best to present the students’ findings. Mr. Russ said, “After visiting the American Museum of Natural History, students gained a sense of what makes museum exhibits fun, exciting, and informative, and applied this field research to their own ‘museum exhibits.'”

Middle schoolers not associated with PBL had the opportunity to tour the pop-up museum on New York City’s climate. The visiting students’ assignment was to complete a scavenger hunt, asking and answering questions about their peers’ work.
