Gaynor School students benefit from a team-based approach to education that includes head teachers, assistant teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, reading and math specialists, parents, guardians, and more. We get to know your child’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style, and we work together closely to ensure we introduce your child to new skills and information in the best possible way.
In the Early Childhood Center, speech, language, and occupational therapy is integrated in students’ day-to-day activities. Our full-time therapists are present in the classroom and available to provide students with group and one-to-one support as needed. In the Lower and Middle schools, therapists provide individualized support both in and out of the classroom.
Speech-language pathologists frequently step into the classroom to assist with lessons and assess the areas in which students may need extra help. They work with individual students as needed, previewing material to help students feel comfortable and confident when encountering new content in class and reviewing material to ensure students retain what they learn.
Motor delays often go hand in hand with other learning challenges, and occupational therapy is an important component of the curriculum for many students. Both our Early Childhood Center and main building include an on-site sensory gym, where our occupational therapists work with students in groups or individually.
