Our physical education program engages students in a wide range of activities, from yoga to volleyball. In addition to providing a necessary and welcome break from academic activities, physical education helps students develop into respectful leaders, teammates, and competitors and inspires lifelong healthy habits. For students with attention difficulties, physical activity is an important way to burn off energy and stay focused during class.
In the Early Childhood Center, physical exercise enables students to have fun while building strength and improving their motor skills. As student progress through school, the complexity and difficulty of physical education activities also increases. Students in the Lower and Middle schools engage in a wide range of fun and challenging tasks, from obstacle courses and trust exercises to team sports such as soccer and softball.
In 2009, Gaynor's basketball became the first of the school's athletic teams to participate in a full season of interscholastic competition. The season was a tremendous success, and in the fall 2011, we moved forward with plans to create several other varsity athletic teams including soccer, baseball, and softball. Experienced, skilled athletes older than 10 can participate. To find out more about athletic teams and other afterschool programs, visit our Afterschool Programs page.
