ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Message from Head of School

Welcome to our web site! Choosing the best educational environment - where children can flourish, is more critical today than ever, and we, at Stephen Gaynor School, are pleased to help you along the journey of finding the ideal setting for your child’s schooling.

Founded in 1962 by two psychology classmates - my grandmother Miriam Michael and good friend Yvette Siegel, the Stephen Gaynor School, a non profit school, provides a unique educational opportunity for boys and girls ages 5-14 with learning differences. The school is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

At Stephen Gaynor School we seek academic excellence within an ethical and supportive environment.  With small classes, a challenging curriculum and co-curriculum, and strong partnerships among parents, teachers, and students, we achieve our goals.  Our school has a culture and climate that supports individual achievement and advancement.

When you visit, you will find an impressive physical plant, and an environment conducive to learning. More importantly, you will find a stimulating and challenging curriculum, bright, engaged students, a well-educated and dedicated faculty, and a rich and broad variety of experiences available beyond the classroom – Art, Music, Drama, Photography, Computer Technology and our wonderful diversified after school programs, You will also discover a community proud of its friendly atmosphere and warm relationships.

Stephen Gaynor School is a remarkable school with ambitious goals. We hope you will come to visit so you can see the many ways in which Stephen Gaynor School fosters intellectual curiosity, stimulates personal growth, and encourages innovation; where children are motivated to be enthusiastic about learning in an academically demanding environment.
