The Stephen Gaynor School provides a distinctly supportive environment for our faculty as well as our students. We support the professional development of our staff by providing them with ongoing training programs, inviting expert educators to campus for speaking engagements, and enabling teachers to travel to enriching workshops and conferences. In this way, we ensure students benefit from the most innovative methods and fresh ideas, and our faculty enjoys the satisfaction of continued self-enrichment.
New and assistant teachers benefit from summer workshops that ensure their familiarity with the Stephen Gaynor School philosophy and approach. In summer 2011, we brought to campus experts from the Singapore and Stern math programs as well as Judith Hochman, author of Basic Writing Skills, to train our teachers.
We provide a special support program to assistant teachers, who meet weekly with their school’s curriculum director to share their ideas and experiences, ask questions, and enrich their understanding of the methods that work best for Stephen Gaynor School students. All Gaynor School teachers have access to relevant professional development opportunities throughout the year.
